Cat Proofing
We always get questions about "training" a new kitten. There's a concern that a new kitten will scratch or destroy furniture, or they a new kitten will display their athleticism by climbing curtains, jumping on counters, or chewing things that they shouldn't be, such as wires or houseplants. Those are all valid concerns that can be addressed by providing real needs for your kittens, which is our preferred approach.

Scratching Posts - No Furniture Scratching

Cats are a lot like us in many ways. One is with their hygiene rituals! One of these hygiene or maintenance rituals is nail care. Their claws are protection, hunting weaponry, tools, communication, and just as important to them as our fingertips are to us in our daily life. This is one of the reason de-clawing is so cruel and why we are happy it is a procedure of the past. Plus, it's just unnecessary! Imagine there was an authority that never allowed you to clip or trim your nails. It would quickly get in the way of your life, and their response to your complaints were to cut off your fingertips behind your first knuckle, when all you really needed was a nail clipper! For cats, they need a cat scratcher. Some prefer vertical, and others prefer horizontal. Get both at first to discover their preference, or see our cat trees to get an all in one product your cat is guaranteed to love! For your kitten, you can also try this product that gives them vertical and horizontal scratching structures to try!

A lot of people ask us how they keep their cats from jumping up on their counters, eating food they shouldn't, spending time rummaging through the kitchen like teenagers during the night. Not only are cats naturally active during parts of the night, but they are excellent jumpers so this is a valid concern. None of our cats do this, and this is because we put these automatic spray deterrents on our counter before we went to bed. After a few times of them being activated, our cats no longer went up on the counters!
Catgrass - Discourage houseplant chewing

We always provide a sheet of poisonous house plants, so be sure all of your houseplants are safe. Beyond that, you can provide cat grass in an accessible location for your cats to provide for their natural need for fiber! Cats will naturally seek grass as a source for fiber, and if they don't have it they will seek houseplants. Give them cat grass to satisfy their need and leave your plants alone!
